Oyo kidnap: Family regains freedom after Sunday Igboho’s ultimatum

Residents of Igboho, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, have celebrated the reported release of a family that was allegedly abducted by kidnappers in the community. The victims, said to include a pregnant woman, her children and a sibling, were reportedly freed after Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, issued a two-hour ultimatum over their continued captivity. Videos circulating on social media showed residents gathered in large numbers, singing and dancing as news of the family’s return spread through the town. Ogun varsity mourns student shot dead by armed robbers

Grief and sorrow enveloped the campus of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, on Thursday as armed robbers reportedly shot dead Lawanson Abiodun, a 100-level student of the Department of Arts and Social Science Education of the university. The incident forced the management of the school to declare Thursday lecture-free to mourn the sudden demise of the student while also commiserating with the student body and the family of the deceased over the irreplaceable loss. This was contained in a statement issued by the management of the university and signed by Niyi Oduwole, the spokesman of the institution. The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Ayodeji Agboola, while expressing his sadness over the loss of the student, assured the student body that the management is collaborating with the relevant security agencies to further ensure the safety of lives and property within and around the institution. The statement partly reads, “Following the incident of armed robbery in Ago-Iwoye township that resulted in the tragic loss of one of our students early this morning, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, on behalf of the university senate, has directed that today, Thursday, 18th June, 2026, be declared a lecture-free day. “While commiserating with the entire student body over the demise of their colleague, the university management expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and assures the students that adequate security measures will be put in place in collaboration with relevant security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property. Babaseyi said, “The police command has commenced an investigation into the tragic death of a student at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, who was shot by suspected armed robbers in Ago-Iwoye. “Police operatives responded promptly and have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. Investigation is ongoing, while the command commiserates with the family and the OOU community and prays that the deceased’s soul rests in perfect peace.”
